It's a holiday miracle! OK, maybe not a miracle, but definitely a surprise -- one that needs your help to make the farm merry and bright. A quick summary:
We received word Wednesday morning that the fourteen bare-root fruit trees we ordered (and didn’t expect until mid-January) are arriving.
An arctic storm hits today, bringing temperatures in the teens and twenties for several days, with a wind chill of -10°F, making it difficult for us to transplant immediately without risking hypothermia.
Oh, and a dump-truck load of mulch sits on the field where we need to plant the trees.
Needless to say, the situation is not ideal, but we're determined to have a good time and appreciate the joy of a crisp winter planting. With that in mind, we're hosting a volunteer day on Monday, December 26, 2022, from 1-3 p.m. So if you're ready for some fresh air after hunkering down in the house for four days, come on out to the farm and spend a couple of hours with friends old and new. We'll spread mulch on the future outdoor classroom space and then make quick work of planting those bare-root trees. There will be much good cheer, and we might even be able to talk Brad into playing "Jingle Bell Rock" on his guitar.
Join the fun this Monday, and be part of creating an orchard that will feed our community for decades to come. If you're interested, please email us. Parking is limited to about eight cars, since the farm is in a residential neighborhood, so we need to keep track of how many folks are coming.
As we look forward to our fourth season, we want to thank you for all your encouragement and support. We couldn't have done it without you. Stay warm in the coming days, and nourish yourself with good food and time for reflection.
Nope! — Brad
Brrr-y Christmas
I would like to come.
I would so love to come and help, but it's a bit far to drive/fly. If there is anything I could do from a distance, (ie, something I could throw a few dollars at to make it better), please let me know!
